What is Digital Marketing
TDMM Academy Video Series | Video #1
By Rob Ewing, Director of Marketing Fitness
My name is Rob Ewing, the Director of Marketing at Fitness Quest 10 and Todd Durkin Enterprises. We devised this series of videos as a simple course to provide general marketing insight to those of you who may not have as much marketing experience or the time to figure out some of the more important tools that you have available to you. Through the next few weeks you will learn about what Digital Marketing is, Why Social Media Marketing is Important, How to Market on Facebook with Organic Content, How to Place Facebook ads and much more.
Our hope is that these are starter courses to much deeper levels of success for your businesses and if you have feedback about certain aspects that would help you more, please let us know.
Let’s dive into the first topic: What is Digital Marketing?
The term digital marketing is a catch-all term for any marketing done in the digital world. That sounds obvious, but what isn’t obvious is how large of a term that is. Digital marketing is the combination of:
-Social media
-Email marketing
-Newsletters
-Videos
-Blogging
-Website Marketing (SEO or Adwords)
-Digital Signage
-Groupon Deals/Deal Sites
-Ads on a Display network
-All of your funnels and automation sequences
-Any sort of external advertising on digital platforms (internal signage)
-Graphic design, etc…
Digital Marketing takes Traditional Marketing (Flyers, Printed handouts, Direct Mailers, advertisements, sponsorships, Signage) into the digital world and allows you to see who is seeing your content and gives you calculable results. You can see exactly how your product is doing and if your advertisement is reaping rewards. This isn’t to say digital is better than traditional, it is just different and often times cheaper. (Combine the two and you may have a winning formula…)
What this doesn’t say is that Digital Marketing and Traditional Marketing can be boiled down into one word: “CONTENT.” All marketing is the process of telling a story to help sell a product. In the modern world, content is the method that will drive all of your marketing. You need to have substance and value in order to be valued and producing content worth looking at will solve all of your marketing woes.
You don’t have to be good at all of digital marketing (as you can see it is quite extensive and as a fitness professional you don’t have much time…) but you do have to be good at producing quality content. What method you use is up to you!
If you are good at using social media like instagram and can develop good leads that way… great! If you are good at creating email sequences and funneling ads into prospects, even better. If you aren’t good at either, you can find something else to do. The TDMM Academy should help you figure out what you are good at and do more of it. #TimeToGetBetter #LearnSomethingNew
